Empowering story of a girl seriously kicking ass.

"Prey" (2022) presents us with an intriguing juxtaposition: Predator versus the Comanche Nation. This Predator installment adheres to the tried-and-true formula that catapulted the inaugural film to success, yet this time, the extraterrestrial carnage unfolds on Earth.
The movie borrows a sprinkle of "Alien," with Naru, a young Comanche woman, yearning for recognition as a skilled warrior. The other warriors, however, adamantly resist the idea of a female warrior joining their ranks. The exception is Naru's older brother, a firm believer that his sister deserves a chance to prove herself.
While I can suspend my disbelief to accept an advanced alien traversing galaxies to engage in sport killing on Earth, I find it harder to swallow that this alien lands precisely in the space and time where a woman is battling for equality some three centuries prior. The projection of modern sensibilities onto historical periods tends to jolt me out of the immersive cinematic experience.
Nevertheless, there is an undeniable thrill in watching women assert their strength. Naru may not be as accomplished a warrior as her brother, but there's a palpable sense that she could give the other warriors a run for their money.
By and large, "Prey" is a thoroughly entertaining film, despite its imperfections. There is a moment of weakness where a warrior, rather than take up arms, simply surrenders. This underwhelming anticlimax, however, does little to dent the overall appeal of the movie.
