Joker: Folie à Deux (2024)

Rating: 3/10
Runtime 138 minutes

"It's Joker, the Musical". The music is awful. So is the movie.

The focus is on Arthur Fleck.

This is not the vibrant Arthur Fleck we saw in the original "Joker".

This Arthur Fleck resides in dreary jailhouse cells, engages in dry courthouse battles, and he too often breaks out into sappy duets.

This movie is so dull, I simply stopped watching it about two-thirds of the way through.

You should not watch Joker: Folie à Deux if... Whats the deal with...
Warning: The following may contain spoilers:

What's the deal with "Joker: Folie à Deux"? I mean, it's Joker, the musical. But the music? It's like they borrowed a tone-deaf bat's echolocator for a conductor. And the movie? Well, let's just say it's like being forced to watch paint dry, if the paint was also off-key.

And then there's Arthur Fleck. Remember the Arthur Fleck we used to know? The vibrant, chaotic, captivating character that kept us on the edge of our seats? Well, he's been replaced with this courtroom crooner who spends more time singing in jailhouse cells than creating chaos in Gotham. It's like trading in your Harley for a tricycle.

And let's talk about those duets. They're sappier than a maple tree in spring. I mean, who decided that the Joker, a criminal mastermind, should be belting out love ballads instead of scheming? It's like having Hannibal Lecter host a cooking show. Sure, it's interesting in theory, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

The movie was so dull, I didn't even finish it. I was two-thirds of the way through and I thought to myself, "I'd rather watch a rerun of a tax seminar." Because at least then, I'd learn something. With "Joker: Folie à Deux", the only thing I learned was how to master the art of the yawn.

So, next time you're tempted to watch "Joker: Folie à Deux", remember: you'd probably have more fun watching your neighbor's lawn grow. And at least then, you wouldn't have to endure the music.

Taxi Driver (1976):

If you're drawn to the dark and psychological exploration of characters like Arthur Fleck, "Taxi Driver" delves into the life of Travis Bickle, a mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, is a gritty portrayal of urban alienation that resonates with the themes of isolation and madness seen in "Joker". The haunting score and Robert De Niro’s powerful performance create an intense atmosphere.
