The Deflowering of Eva van End (2012)

Rating: 5/10
Runtime 98 minutes

"The Deflowering of Eva van End" (2012) presents itself as a quirky drama where you keep on waiting for the quirkiness to become amusing. Sadly, the film never quite makes that leap from quirky to funny. Instead, it simply stays rooted in its sadness - an unusual juxtaposition that leaves the viewer feeling unfulfilled.

The entire movie is reminiscent of Little Miss Sunshine, but with a decidedly more depressing twist. The characters are not given the chance to evolve, and the humor that one might expect from such a quirky film is markedly absent. This lack of development and humor begs the question: is it funny? The answer is a simple no.

I found myself longing for some form of transformation or growth, but it never arrives. The characters remain stuck in their ways, leaving the audience with little to no satisfaction. Ultimately, it's a two-hour investment that you might wish you could reclaim.
