It (2017)
"It," the movie that successfully instills fear of storm drains, is based on Stephen King's book.
Unlike King's book, which starts at a slow pace, the movie accelerates into action from the start and maintains this momentum throughout.
The focus of the film rests solely on the children, a departure from the book where the narrative switches between the children and their adult selves.
Set in the summer of 1989, the plot revolves around a group of bullied kids who unite to eradicate a shape-shifting monster. This creature, lurking in their small Maine town of Derry, disguises itself as a clown to prey on the town's children.
While the first installment of the film is excellent, the sequel leaves much to be desired. However, the original movie is sufficiently compelling to stand well on its own.
- You are under the age of 17, as this movie is rated R.
- You have coulrophobia (fear of clowns). The main antagonist is a malevolent entity taking the form of a clown.
- Graphic violence and bloody scenes make you feel uncomfortable.
- You have difficulty watching scenes that involve bullying or harm to children.
- You are not a fan of horror films or psychological thrillers.

What's the deal with "It" (2017)? I mean, you've got this creepy clown who lives in the sewer. Now, I don't know about you, but if I'm going for a top-notch scare, the last place I'm looking is the local waste disposal system. 'Oh no, watch out for that... used toilet paper!' And how does he keep his outfit so clean? If I drop a slice of pizza face-down, it's done for. But this guy’s down in the sewers in a pristine white suit. What's his secret? Clorox? And why a clown? Did he take a wrong turn at the circus? Is he just trying to make ends meet between birthday parties? I mean, who are these people?
A Quiet Place (2018):
If you loved "It" for its combination of creeping horror and strong emphasis on character relationships, "A Quiet Place" should be your next watch. It's a horror movie that revolves around a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing. The movie deftly combines horror with intense family drama, much like "It".
Stranger Things (TV Series 2016 - ):While not a movie, the TV series "Stranger Things" captures many elements that "It" fans love. The series follows a group of kids in a small town who confront supernatural forces, featuring the same combination of 80s nostalgia, group dynamics, and horror elements as "It".
Super 8 (2011):"Super 8" is another great movie created by J.J. Abrams. The film, similar to "It," centers around a group of friends who encounter strange events in their small town. The movie is rife with mystery, suspense, and most importantly, an alien creature. It's a thrilling ride from beginning to end with an emphasis on friendship central to its storyline, just like in "It".
The Babadook (2014):If it's the psychological horror aspect of "It" that you found particularly compelling, "The Babadook" would be a perfect fit. This Australian-Canadian movie explores the tale of a mother and son who are haunted by a mysterious entity they discover in a pop-up book. Notably, it's the tension and fear in everyday surroundings that makes 'The Babadook' similar to the terror in 'It'.
Us (2019):For fans of "It" who adore more than just the horror aspect, Jordan Peele's "Us" is an excellent recommendation. The story follows a family confronted by their doppelgängers. The movie brilliantly combines horror with social commentary, providing plenty of thrills and thought-provoking moments akin to the thematic elements in "It".
