Jurassic Park (1993)

Rating: 7/10
Runtime 127 minutes

"Jurassic Park" truly provides a wealth of awe-inspiring dinosaur encounters.

The film is a pioneer in the realm of large-budget movies, highly praised for its extensive use of photorealistic CGI (Computer Generated Imagery). This groundbreaking use of CGI technology was crucial in bringing dinosaurs to life on screen with an unparalleled level of realism.

The dinosaurs are colossal and terrifying, with the human characters merely serving as observers to their majesty. These characters are understandably terrified of being devoured but their main role is to accompany the audience on this thrilling journey.

Steven Spielberg, in his film "Jaws", had similar issues with his mechanical shark and thus, the focus was shifted more towards the human characters. "Jaws" was less about a shark eating people and more about people fighting against the shark.

"Jurassic Park", however, is fundamentally about the dinosaurs. Of course, there's Jeff Goldblum with his distinctive humor, Sam Neill and Laura Dern as the scientists, Richard Attenborough as the well-meaning billionaire (brother to the remarkable naturalist David Attenborough), and Wayne Knight (Newman from "Seinfeld") providing comic relief. There are also a couple of children that no one is keen on seeing being eaten.

But let's be honest, the main attraction here is the dinosaurs, and they make a grand entrance right from the start. The storyline, the plot, and even the character development all take a backseat to the monumental presence of the dinosaurs.

Although subsequent "Jurassic Park" movies may have marginally better CGI, they also focus excessively on the dinosaurs often trying to squeeze in as many jump scares as possible.

"God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates dinosaurs." - Ian

"Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth." - Ellie

Warning: The following may contain spoilers:

What's the deal with "Jurassic Park"? You're telling me we've got the technology to clone dinosaurs, but we can't make a single fence that works? I've seen garden fences that hold up better than this! And Newman from Sienfeld is running the IT department? No wonder they've got problems! You'd think with all that dinosaur money they could afford someone who knows their way around a computer. This isn't just a park, it's a prehistoric tech support nightmare!
